We used to hire a gardener to come and trim the five fir trees in our backyard. For some reason he quit coming. Last year I asked Takizawa-san, our Danchi Know-it-all, if he could show me what tools I needed and how to do the trimming by myself. Instead he came and did it for me. Cool. I watched him then thanked him very much.

Last week I went to him again to see if there weren’t an electric trimmer in the Community tool shed that i could borrow to do the job myself. We met, and we checked. We found that there was none. So i went to my favourite gardening place, DCM, to purchase one.

There were two types available. ① electric or battery powered. ② hedge or tree trimmer. I purchased the electric, hedge trimmer. It included a 10 meter extension cord.

Back home, I donned my gardening clothes and got right to work. It was fantastic! I trimmed the two front trees which are in the best condition after 19 years. Then i went to do the other three when ... WHOOPS! I accidentally sawed the extension cord! I was a bit bummed but grateful that wasn’t a finger. DCM was not open yet so i watched TV for 40 minutes then headed there. They had just what i needed and it cost \2,000. Ces’t la vie!

Back home, I got right to work. I trimmed high and low and up and down and over and under for another hour, including clean upon. I’m quite pleased with the results. I’m also confident that by maintaining the trees year-round by myself, they will grow healthy and be as happy as I am.
